Lyon have five points after the first three rounds and sit on the second position in Group E, behind Atalanta with seven. The French outfit have one win and two draws so far and this match is very important. Interesting, the only victory is obtained at Goodison Park two weeks ago. The points were shared on the remaining two games with Atalanta and Apollon. Bertrand Traore is the team leading scorer in this competition with two goals. Lyon are in excellent form at the moment. The Kids are in series of four consecutive victories across all competitions and the players confidence is very high. Lyon managed to beat Monaco with 3:2, Troyes with 5:0 and Metz with 2:0, plus Everton in the reverse fixture. Coach Bruno Genesio will try to motivate his men in order to secure the fifth victory in a row and to make a step further on the path to the knockout stage. Most of the players are read, only three of them are struggling with injuries - Clement Grenier and Pape Cheikh are sidelined, while Ferland Mendy is doubtful. Some players, like Kenny Tete, might be rested.
Everton play a poor season. The Toffees spent heavily in the transfer window this summer, but the results were bad and manager Ronald Koeman paid the prize. The Dutch coach was sacked after a dismal run of form that has left Everton third from bottom of the Premier League and with only two wins in 13 games. David Unsworth was announced as temporary solution, but little have changed under his guidance. On the first match Everton suffered an elimination from the league cup (lost 2:1 to Chelsea in Carabao Cup), and then lost 2:0 to Leicester City in the Premier League. The atmosphere in the squad is still bad, while the players confidence is very low. Everton are yet to keep a clean sheet in Europe, conceding two against both Apollon and Lyon, as well as three from Atalanta in Bergamo. For this match Unsworth has six injured players - Ramiro Funes Mori, Yannick Bolasie, Seamus Coleman, Ross Barkley, James McCarthy and Michael Keane. Some of the key players, like Leighton Baines and Wayne Rooney, may be rested here.
Lyon vs Everton Prediction:
I expect at least three goals at Groupama Stadium. Everton have conceded two goals from Apollon, two goals from Lyon and three from Atalanta. The defense is out of confidence and I expect to continue that way. However, this is the last chance for the Toffees. Everton are at the bottom of the group with just one point and another defeat will definitely mean elimination from UEFA Europe League. They won't give up easily, so I expect an open and efficient match.
Lyon vs Everton Pick: Over 2.5 goals
